October 11, 2015 A great day painting at King Gillette Ranch! Posted In: Uncategorized

i love this place!  The long eucalyptus lined road to the Visitor Center;  the beautiful views of the oak-studded hillsides;  the manor and it’s huge palm trees;  and who could forget NBCUniversal TV’s “The Biggest Loser” house and sets! :>)

It was outrageously hot, but I stuck to the shade and even managed to get a cool breeze every once in awhile.

What I love to paint here is the row of shedding eucalyptus trees, using them as a shadow-laden dark “frame” around the piece, pointing the viewer toward the focal point.  For this piece, it was the tall stand of eucalyptus trees in the mid ground.  In a piece called “Eucalyptus Eucalyptus Oak”, it’s the solitary oak tree in a line with the eucalyptus trees.  It’s a bit of a composition “trick”, but it works!
